Early Review: Lost Girl Continues to Surprise

By Jamie Ruby

Lost GirlSeason four of the faetastic Lost Girl returns Monday night to Syfy with another kick-ass episode. The series focuses on the powerful, and an as of yet unaligned succubus Bo (Anna Silk), who at the end of last season disappeared with presumably her biological father, and fans have been waiting with bated breath to find out exactly what happened.

Lost GirlIn the premiere episode Bo is notably still missing, but life goes on without her. While Kenzi (Ksenia Solo), Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried), and Hale (K.C. Collins) take on a case of stolen memory, a new threat looms for humans. Kenzi must find new ways to protect herself from that threat. Things are very different without Bo around, including the introduction of a new Morrigan. With humans in danger, Lauren (Zoie Palmer) is in a different place as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode back, and found myself laughing quite a bit. The new and different dynamics during the first episode had me cracking up, just because it is so very different from what fans will expect.

There were some really great moments in the episode, including the dance scene that fans will be talking about for a long time to come. I also like the new "explosive" side to Kenzi that we get to see. You can tell that Solo had a great time with it.

Lost GirlI also really enjoyed George Takei in the episode. It was definitely not what I was expecting, which made it all the better.

The second episode follows Dyson as he seeks out an elemental Fae to help with his search. Meanwhile Kenzi is left to babysit.

This episode is just as funny as the first. The highpoint is, in my opinion, Kenzi babysitting. She struggles to put up with the girl, and as much as she annoys her, you can see they connect.

Lost GirlMia Kirshner is also a great addition, and I'm curious to know more about her character.

After watching the first two episodes, I'm excited to see Bo continue on her journey and find out where things are going, but I'm just as excited to see the changes in the rest of the characters along the way. I'm also really looking forward to seeing two of the characters' relationship continue to evolve. If the first two episodes are anything to go by, this could easily be the best season of Lost Girl yet.
