Alphas: Press Release

Alphas

This July, Syfy launches its newest original scripted series Alphas. In the action-packed thriller from writers Zak Penn (The Avengers, X-Men: The Last Stand) and Michael Karnow, five ordinary people are brought together to form one extraordinary team. They are known as Alphas -- people with the unique power to stretch the capabilities of the human mind giving them superhuman physical and mental abilities -- and the impossible is what they do best.

Alphas premieres Monday, July 11 @ 10:00PM ET/PT, and will be presented by Verizon with limited commercial interruption.

Alphas follows a clandestine group of average everyday citizens with amazing abilities operating within the U.S. Department of Defense. Led by preeminent neurologist and psychiatrist Dr. Lee Rosen (Emmy Award-winner and Academy Award-nominee David Strathairn), the team investigates cases that point to others with abilities like theirs, and as they work against the clock to solve this new brand of crime, they must prevent their own personality differences and disparate backgrounds from interfering with their missions.

An Old Friend: A Year Since "LOST"

By AJ Grillo

May 23, 2011

It is time to revisit an old friend, not that this friend has ever been far from my thoughts. I am speaking of Lost. We are one year removed from the series finale, and websites and chat rooms all over the world are doing a re-watch of the finale. Lost was an amazing roller coaster ride of mystery and intrigue. It made us think; we could play along with the cast of characters in trying to figure out what was going on. A few times from season four on I was afraid that the journey was going to be better than the destination. Was I right? Possibly. Then again, why did it matter?

Lost kept us riveted for six years. I myself had the honor of being there for the beginning of the "web mazes." Lost related fan sites popped up everywhere, not to mention all the official online content. This was the first time that a show had bridged the gap of television and internet so flawlessly. Even when Lost was on hiatus we still had plenty of online content to mess with to keep us occupied.

However, after awhile it seemed Lost had presented too many questions for them to all be answered: what's the smoke monster, what are the whispers, who are The Others, and hundreds more. But none so prolific as the line that became the benchmark of the show uttered by Charlie in season one, "Guys, where are we?" Did Lost answer the many, many questions presented? Some yes. Were we happy with some of those answers, mostly not.

In the end, it didn't matter. Lost was not about the island per se. Yes, the island itself was a character, but the show was a character driven show about survivors of a plane crash who happened to be on a mystical island with unusual abilities. The characters themselves were "lost" in life, not just on the island. It was about redemption and finding themselves.

"Awake" Starring Jason Isaacs Comes to NBC

NBC has recently revealed it's Fall and Mid-Season Lineups. One of the shows that SciFi Vision will be covering is the new upcoming drama Awake, starring Jason Isaacs. No date has been announced yet, but here is the official press release and some video clips we received, as well as a description of the show and some other video clips directly from NBC.com.

'AWAKE' (formerly REM)
"Awake" is an intriguing drama about a detective (Jason Issacs, "Harry Potter," "Brotherhood") who finds he is leading an arduous double life that defies reality. When Detective Michael Britten (Issacs) regains consciousness following his family's car accident, he is told that his wife Hannah (Laura Allen, "Terriers") perished but that his teen son, Rex (Dylan Minnette, "Saving Grace"), has survived. As he tries to put the pieces of his life back together, he awakens again in a parallel reality in which his wife is very much alive -- but his son Rex died in the accident. In order to keep both of his loved ones alive at one time, he begins living two dueling realities in parallel worlds, which churns up confusion -- in one moment, Michael and his wife debate about having another child to replace their son, while in the other reality, he is attracted to his son's tennis coach, Tara (Michaela McManus, "The Vampire Diaries"), to fill the void from the loss of his wife. Trying to regain some normalcy, Michael returns to police work and solves crimes in both worlds with the help of two different partners -- Detective Isaiah "Bird" Freeman (Steve Harris, "The Practice") and Detective Efrem Vega (Wilmer Valderrama, "That '70s Show"). Also starring are Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones ("24") and BD Wong (NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit") as therapists in each respective world. The series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. Kyle Killen ("Lone Star") and Howard Gordon ("24") are executive producers. David Slade ("Twilight: Eclipse," "30 Days of Night") also serves as executive producer and directed the pilot written by Killen.

Directly from NBC.com's official Awake website:
Lots of people find themselves leading some kind of double life... but none quite like this.
