Tomorrow Netflix drops its new series Black Summer, a spinoff/prequel to Syfy’s Z Nation. The show takes place at the start of the zombie apocalypse and follows a group of survivors as they enter each other’s lives and work together to stay alive and make it to safety.

During a town-wide evacuation, Rose (Jaime King) is separated from her daughter Anna (Zoe Marlett) and must make it to the stadium to catch up with her, but she can’t do it alone. She is saved from a zombie attack by a man with secrets, Spears (Justin Chu Cary), who agrees to help her on her journey. Along the way a deaf man, Ryan (Mustafa Alabassi), and another man, Lance (Kelsey Flower), join their group.

Back in January, the Sky series A Discovery of Witches came to the US via the streaming services Sundance Now, Shudder, and AMC Premiere. Because of its huge success, on Sunday night, the series makes its way to network television in the US for the first time, premiering on both AMC and BBC America simultaneously.

Based on the first book of the All Souls fantasy trilogy by the same name by Deborah Harkness, the series, which has already been renewed for a second and third season, has been adapted for television by Kate Brooke, who also executive produces.

The story takes place in a world where witches, vampires, and daemons exist alongside humans in secret and follows Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer), a witch who has denied her heritage, never embraced her powers, and is unaware of her strength. When she successfully requests a long-lost manuscript from the Bodleian Library at Oxford University, creatures take notice. One of those creatures is vampire Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode), who has been looking for the book for centuries, thinking it contains information on his heritage. He explains to her that he is not the only one and warns that all the supernatural creatures will soon be after her.

Friday Netflix dropped the second season of its hit series The OA. If you thought season one was confusing, put on your thinking caps, because this one will take a few viewings at least.

It’s hard to sum up The OA. It's the kind of show that people either love or hate. Me, I'm in love. The first season was a beautifully written masterpiece. It ended so perfectly, yet fans yearned for season two, but could it stand up to the hype?

On the latest episode of The Walking Dead, Daryl and Connie attempt to save Lydia and Henry while the Kingdom meets some new allies.

For as much as I’ve been annoyed by Henry and Lydia, I found this week’s episode to be fairly enjoyable - except for the end, but we’ll get to that.

Lately the Kingdom story hasn’t been as integral to the episodes as the rest, but this week that starts to change as the groups are merging together at the fair. It’s going to be great to see some of them back together again, at least for a while, and we at least get a taste of that.

Two generations before the planet was destroyed, Krypton tells the story of Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), Superman’s grandfather. After Seg’s own grandfather (Ian McElhinney) is killed for treason for believing in a threat from another world, their family is stripped of their title and rank.

Seg grows up with his parents in the lower class of the planet in Kandor City, with a corrupt government, getting into bar brawls to make extra money. On top of that he’s in love with Lyta-Zod (Georgina Campbell), who is to be bonded to someone else.

When he stops a terrorist and is offered a rise again in rank as part of another family, his parents urge him to accept and make a better life for himself. However, everything changes when he is approached by the time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos).

The episode did have some good action this week, but most of what sticks out to me is how annoying Henry still is. Everything could have been avoided just by him staying home, but of course, he thinks he’s a hero. He can’t even track without being spotted. The other thing, is that the majority of the episode was super predictable with him. I’m blaming the writers on this one.

I am interested a bit more in Lydia this week, however. It seems, at least to me, that other than telling Daryl and the others there were only a few Whisperers, that she told the truth. I think she really does want out of the situation. I feel like what she told Alpha was pretty much the bare minimum, and she only said anything because she’s scared of her mother. Although, Alpha trying to force her to kill Henry, doesn’t really show her if she has feelings for him. I’m guessing Lydia probably wouldn’t have wanted to kill anyone in cold blood.

I really liked this week’s episode. It was interesting to see that Penny and Marina’s timeline jump has caused repercussions. However, although some of the timey-wimey stuff happening with them felt a little unnecessary, I enjoyed it none the less, especially both Pennys interacting with each other. Arjun Gupta was excellent in that scene and looked like he was having a lot of fun. It also serves as a good reminder that although Penny 40 may be fitting in, the original Penny has been dead. At least we got to see what he’s been up to. I’m not sure how Kady will react to his message, but I still hold hope that somehow he’ll get to see her again. With this show, you never know.

I am really excited for Shadowhunters to be back. The episode after the hiatus was emotional as everyone was mourning Clary (Katherine McNamara), and the use of their memory flashes helped to convey that. Dominic Sherwood especially did a spectacular job in his mourning as Jace, so devastated that he doesn’t even get any hope from Luke (Isaiah Mustafa)’s suggestion that Clary may still be alive.

Obviously, it wasn’t a surprise that Clary was alive, nor that she was with Jonathan, but I did enjoy McNamara’s scenes with Luke Baines, especially the way she held her own. However, I’m not sure her plan to walk out into the middle of the snow in Siberia with assumedly no stele was a very smart one.

The scenes with Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Alec (Matthew Daddario) were sweet, with Alec trying to convince Magnus that losing his magic wasn’t everything. Their interactions with Madzie (Ariana Williams) were also cute, especially Alec reading to her.

While I sometimes struggle with the show each week, this one was a pretty good episode, though a bit slow. Most of the scenes with Ezekiel, Carol, and Jerry were unnecessary, other than the stuff with the charter. They could have just made a comment that they got the bulb. However, I can’t say they weren’t enjoyable. I especially always love seeing Melissa McBride. Jerry of course was also a lot of fun like always, though I’m not sure it was worth risking their life twice for the bulb.

I also worry about Jerry. I love seeing him happy and with a family, but no one has died in a while, and a lot of times once people are settled it spells the end.

As for the storyline with Alpha, I have mixed feelings. Overall, it’s nice for once to see things go as planned for the group, but at the same time, not a whole lot actually happened. As Alpha said, “No conflict.” I am really enjoying Samantha Morton as Alpha though.

In the third season of The Magicians, magic is gone, and everyone is left powerless, except for Julia (Julia Maeve). After embarking on the quest for the seven keys, the students get what they need to restore magic to earth, but are stopped by Alice (Olivia Taylor Dudley), who destroys the keys, not wanting magic to return. However, luckily, Julia is able to use her magic to stop Alice and remake the keys.

As they are about to restore magic once and for all, inserting their keys in the fountain, Gavin (Daniel Nemes), the traveling librarian from the Order, Irene McAllister (Jaime Ray Newman), and Dean Fogg (Rick Worthy) show up to stop them. Gavin attaches the siphon on the well spring to divert magic to the Library, so they can control who uses it. Fogg was involved in the deal with the Library and Irene to make it happen, in exchange for the lives of the students, and uses his potion to erase their memories and give them new magic-free identities as protection. However, Alice is not included, as she is arrested by the Library on backing out of her deal.
