Orphan Black: The Next Chapter - Episode 4 Review & Recap

***Contains Spoilers***

Orphan Black: The Next ChapterToday Serial Box released the fourth episode of Orphan Black: The Next Chapter, “To Ignore the Oblivious,” by Lindsay Smith.

The last episode left off with quite the cliffhanger, with Charlotte stuck at the hospital with the clone Dana, potentially exposed to the unknown illness with no cure. This episode takes straight off from there and is filled with just as much suspense.

This episode really starts to connect the dots to all the puzzle pieces, showing how everything is related. Not only is it confirmed that Dana and her sisters (yes there’re more!) were the target of GRIT’s genetic attack, but in my opinion, it seems like there could potentially be a connection to GeneKeep where Kira is working. While trying to stay away from the whole clone business, did she inadvertently put herself back in the middle? Regardless, I will say that her storyline has gotten much more interesting this episode.

I was really happy this time to get Tatiana Maslany’s performance in time for the review, which I didn’t last time. It really makes a difference hearing her voice the characters. I was also pleasantly surprised that we got another familiar face this episode, even if only briefly.

Orphan Black: The Next Chapter - Episode 3 Review & Recap

***Contains Spoilers***

Orphan Black: The Next ChapterToday Serial Box releases episode three of Orphan Black: The Next Chapter, “Bread and Pottages,” by E.C. Meyers.

The episode is another strong one, and readers finally get a bunch of clones talking together at the same time (although via video chat). Unfortunately, I did not receive audio this time with the episode, so I haven’t heard the scene yet, but I am really eager to hear Tatiana Maslany’s recording of it. It adds so much.

In the third episode, the stakes are getting higher as more is discovered about the explosion at GRIT, and the clones could all be in a lot of danger. I really enjoyed Art’s conversation with Jay in the episode, trying to steer her away from any useful information. It just really brings me back to the television series.

I’m also so glad that Vivi is getting more information about her sisters and realizing she isn’t crazy. At some point, the next step will be for her to confront the other clones, and I’m really excited for that. I do wish, however, that the episode had showed Vivi’s reaction to the what she found out.

Orphan Black: The Next Chapter - Episode 2 Review & Recap

***Contains Spoilers***

Orphan Black: The Next ChapterToday Serial Box releases episode two of Orphan Black: The Next Chapter, a continuation of the popular BBC America television series. The second episode is written by Mishell Baker, a different author than the first (written by Malka Older). I liked the idea from the beginning that they were bringing in other writers, as they often do with episodes of television series, but I was afraid it would not blend well together. Thankfully it does, and it feels like one complete story.

I was really happy to have more characters from the original series return, especially Alison. The author has her down to a T. I always loved the show, and as likely most people reading the series, I am doing so to read about the original characters’ adventures rather than just about the universe of the show.

I love how the story continues to feel like it’s just another episode of the series. The idea of weaving in evidence from the case that started a lot of the problems for the clones is a cool idea, and the border patrol really raises the stakes.

Orphan Black: The Next Chapter - Episode 1, Part 2 Review & Recap

***Contains Spoilers***

Orphan Black: The Next ChapterToday Serial Box releases part two of the first episode of Orphan Black: The Next Chapter. I was really impressed by the first part of the episode, though it was mostly introduction and fairly short. The second part is a bit longer and is when the real meat of the story begins.

I love how with Tatiana Maslany reading the story, even though it isn’t on television, you can still feel each clone’s personality. It's great to hear about the original clones, and I am especially eager to hear about Sarah and Allison as the season continues. Plus, I think it will be even more fun when multiple clones are together in the same scene interacting. Still, it's really appealing that there is a new clone as a main character, and Vivi is very likable and a lot different from the others we know.

Book Review: Painting with Bob Ross - Learn to Paint in Oil Step by Step!

Painting with Bob RossWhen I got the chance to review Painting with Bob Ross, I was fairly excited. Although I haven’t painted in years with real paints, I have been trying to get into digital painting. With supposed lifelike brushes available now on tablets, I really thought that I could use the techniques and try to transfer them to the new medium. I remember decades ago watching Ross on television and thinking that he made his lessons look like anyone with a little artistic ability could do it. I thought it would be a fun experiment and a unique way to review the book.
